Ecotourism
Ecotourism is the new word for ecological friendly tourism. Over the past few decades, tourism has devastated many places throughout the world, and so as a result, ecotourism is now highly popular throughout the world. Basically this entails using any way to minimize the impact that tourism has on the ecological environment. Many hotels, resorts and even houses these days are designed for ecotourism.
Some forms of ecotourism include minimizing water use of toilets, showers and taps, minimizing rubbish and other rubbish into the wilderness, tracks designed to be walked on (meaning less vegetation and bush is trampled because there was no designated place to walk) and solar/wind energy. Ecotourism is often more expensive to provide, but it is necessary to preserve our environment.
In a hundred years to come, without ecotourism, many of the worlds beautiful places would be long gone because of natural devastation. Ecotourism was brought in so that in a hundred years time and beyond, these places are preserved for future generations to enjoy. If you really think about it, it’s worth paying a few extra dollars to stay in an ecotourism accommodation.
Ecotourism often means that less vegetation is cleared when a new resort or hotel is built, which means that when you visit these, you are literally in the wilderness. It makes the experience so much more real, instead of looking out of the window and seeing a grass oval, you see the rainforest or a huge bush land less than 100 feet from your bedroom. Ecotourism has revolutionized the way that the world looks after our ecology, by utilizing wind and solar energy.
This is realistically free, so once the wind turbines are working, or solar panels are bought and installed, the energy is renewable and free. Ecotourism usually involves minimizing the disturbance to flora and fauna in their natural environment. This means that you will often have more wildlife to see in your ecotourism hotel or resort.
Ecotourism means that generations to come will be able to enjoy snorkeling and fishing in clean waters, bush walks in rainforests and grasslands which are not full of litter and just generally be able to enjoy the environment as it should be. There is no need for the environment to be trashed; ecotourism helps to provide a solution for this.
Ecotourism may mean that your favorite camping spot is banned, and designated camping spots are built in, and other negative effects on the way that you may live your holiday life, but it’s for the overall benefit of everyone. Ecotourism provides a solution for thousands of people (in some cases) to visit the same area in the world each year, without leaving a massive ecological footprint.
I totally support ecotourism, and feel that it’s a good idea. Next time you choose to go on holiday, ask yourself whether it is an ecotourism holiday, and make sure that you are looking after the environment as best you can, because future generations deserve to be able to enjoy our wonderful world.
