Baseball

Baseball is a huge sport which is played mainly by those in America. It involves two teams who have nine players in each. The aim of the game is to score as many ‘runs’ as possible by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and running around four bases. These are arranged in a diamond shape, and you must run past each base and touch it before continuing the run. The aim is to go around and touch the fourth base without getting ‘out’. You can get out if the ball that you hit is caught on the full, or if you have too many strikes, or if you get caught out in between bases. If you decide that you are not going to make it back to home base in one go, then you can stop at any base along the way, and another teammate then steps up to bat. Once they have hit the ball, then you can begin running again. This means that it’s possible to get several people out at one go.

This is a full on professional sport over in America, where a massive amount of money is involved. A professional Baseball player is looking at an income which can be in the millions of dollars. The ball that is hit is pitched from the opposite team, from a centre point in the field. The ball must be hit inside of the diamond shape, or it counts as a strike. Softball and Tee ball are variations of the sport, which involve a different set of rules and sometimes a different way to play the game. Tee ball involves hitting the ball off a tee, rather than trying to hit a pitched ball. Softball and Tee ball tend to be for the younger people, as a beginning of the sport. This is a great sport for some fun, especially if your not into the adrenaline rushing sports like Skydiving!

The equipment used in Baseball consists of big gloves, helmets, a box, a ball and a bat. Also, there are the bases as well as other bits of material which mark out the shape of the field. The aim of the game is to score more runs than the other team, and it can become extremely competitive when played professionally. Normally a standard game will go for nine innings, but they may go for longer if the score is still tied at the end of the game. This is a great Outdoor Adventure for all!
