Bowling Ball
A Bowling Ball is made from a combination of materials, most commonly urethane, plastic and a reactive resin. Sometimes they are only made out of one of these. Ten pin bowling uses balls which have three holes drilled in them. One is for the ring finger, another is for the middle finger and one is for the thumb. Some rules allow up to five finger holes. Balls are usually collected for free at a bowling alley, after paying to use the lane. People who become very highly interested in bowling may purchase their own balls, because they are customized, well looked after and designed for the exact size finger that the player has. Often at a public bowling alley, there will be a huge variety of balls, but it’s often difficult to find one that fits correctly. Not only this, but regularly the balls are dropped and damaged, meaning that they do not run correctly down the laneway in the first place!
Something which is extremely distinctive about a Bowling Ball is the colors that they are available in. Plastic can be colored to whatever a person wants, which explains why there are so many different kinds of colors used. You can even get special patterns put onto the bowl to make it unique. Those who purchase their own balls tend to be able to use heavier balls, because the fingers fit in perfectly and hence allow for it. Many times I have used a ball which is slightly too tight, and the ball grips too much as you throw it, putting it way off balance. The other thing that can happen is if you are using a ball which has too bigger finger holes, then the ball can slip out before you are ready to let go of it. This is particularly the case when you have bowled a few times, as the sweat builds up in the little finger holes and makes it very slippery. Many people have different methods to holding and bowling a ball, but there are a few common ways. If you have never watched professional bowling, I would highly recommend it, because it’s amazing how they can spin a ball to knock over 10 pins consistently. This takes a lot of skill, similar to other sports like Wakeboarding.
A Bowling Ball can be customized even more, with the weight distributed in different places. Some balls will be very heavy towards the middle, whilst others have the weigh on the outside. These both react differently when bowled, and can be chosen from based on personal opinion. The weight of a bowling ball has to be over 16 pounds, and be over 8.5 inches in diameter. This limits the options a little bit, but depending on the size of the bowler the size of the ball will change significantly anyway.
