Jet Boating

Jet boating is a sport which I have thoroughly enjoyed, in New Zealand. A jet boat is a high powered, lightweight boat which is able turn very quickly, and drive very fast. There are many jet boat tours in most countries, ranging from the ocean to rivers, lakes and even in between canyons. Jet boats are made of aluminum. They are built to be as light as possible, but at the same time extremely strong.

In New Zealand, I went jet boating in between two canyons, on an extreme ride. The driver drives up and down the river at high speeds, turning and swerving quickly to provide excitement for the riders. There were times where the jet boat got within a foot of the rocks; the drivers are extremely skilled. Jet boating can be done in rivers where the water isn’t overly tall; some jet boats have the ability to drive across water just over 4 inches high.

Jet boating involves using boats that sometimes have two engines. This allows the driver to drive both engines full bore, one in reverse and one in forward. This means the boat spins around quickly on the spot. Jet boating is done by drivers with a lot of training, especially those that have to navigate around corners, close to rock in canyons. Jet boating is very different to normal boating, both in the way they handle and the function.

Jet boating is usually a sport where you get a little or a lot wet, depending on where you sit. Ensure you are prepared for this when you go jet boating by bringing a spare pair of clothes, a rain jacket or if it’s warm, a towel. Jet boating is made more comfortable by heated rails which you need to hold onto; otherwise the forces will throw you around a lot.

Jet boating may be expensive, but it’s something that you only do very irregularly, and it’s great fun for the whole family. Even if you aren’t up for actually going Jet boating, go down and check it out; it’s amazing how fast they go and can spin around. Make sure when choosing a company to go jet boating with ensure that they have a good reputation for safety and for physical enjoyment.

Jet boating is something which I really enjoyed, and I would definitely do again. Jet boating is safe, exciting and well worth your money. Out of all the forms of boating, this is probably the most extreme and the most fun. In saying this, you would struggle to buy your own boat to go jet boating in.
