Golf
Golf is an adventure sport which is hugely popular worldwide. Golf involves players using many types of clubs including woods, irons, and putters to hit balls into holes in a golf course. The aim in golf is to have the minimum number of hits to get the ball into each hole. Golf is a very individual sport because each time you play can be different; unlike most sports where the ‘court’ or area is the same each time, individual golf courses are different wherever you go. Golf competitions are huge in many countries, and you can find a golf course in most major towns.
Golf is played by both males and females of all ages. There are competitions based around both sexes, and there are young professional golfers just as there are older professional golfers. A typical golf course has 18 holes, but many smaller golf courses only have 9. Holes are usually able to be achieved in a straight line from the tee off, but there are often curves in the green, known as doglegs. Golf has different levels of grass, to increase the difficulty. Sometimes the ball can land in the sand, and the game continues. This is known as a bunker. The player can choose to hit the ball out of the sand, or to move the ball outside of the bunker, and lose one stroke.
Golf equipment includes clubs and a ball. Golf usually requires many balls, various clubs and a trolley, or golf cart. Only 14 clubs are allowed to be in the players bag at one time during a stipulated round. Golf balls are famous for ‘dimples’. These are small dips in the surface surrounding the gold ball. This decreases the aerodynamic drag, and allows the ball to move a further distance. Golf Improvement can be done through a set of strategies which have been tried and tested by thousands of people!
Golf may seem like a very boring game when watched for the first few times, but it’s actually very enjoyable. The first time I was ever introduced to this sport was at a friend’s farm, just hitting balls with old clubs at the steel sheds and old cars. We spent more time trying to find the golf balls, but it was a very enjoyable afternoon. I wasn’t that interested in trying it out, but I am glad I did. Golf has a lot of money in it if you become professional, but for most people it is simply a very enjoyable hobby and sport.
There are usually golf lessons and coaching sessions held at golf courses, so you can learn the sport fairly easily. Clubs and buggies can be hired at most golf courses, so if you don’t have your own set you don’t need to worry. Dress for golfing varies depending on how prestige each club is, but usually it is formal casual dress.
Golf has become so popular that another sport has been based around it; mini golf. This is similar to golf in many ways, much in a much smaller version. Instead of hitting the balls hundreds of feet, you might have to put them 5 meters. There are usually obstacles on each hole which you need to navigate over or through. Mini golf is cheap, great for kids and fun to spend a day at. If you haven’t tried any form of golf, get out there and give it a go. Out of all the sports that I have tried, this is by far the most relaxing sport. It can become competitive too, but for many people it’s a fun way to kill an afternoon after work with some mates. It’s fun, challenging and rewarding.
