Drifting

Drifting is another adventure sport which is popular throughout a huge variety of countries today. It is a motorsport which involves over steering, which in turn makes the rear wheels lose traction and slide out. The idea is to do it at high speed and the more the car slides, the better it looks and the more points are awarded. There are competitions which are held throughout the world, and a lot of money is involved for those who manage to win! This is a sport which can be very stressing on the cars, so they need to be built in a way which allows them to last. The tires used are burned out very quickly, which means that it is a very expensive sport to compete in. The cars used are highly modified and usually cost thousands of dollars.

In Saudi Arabia, there is a major problem with illegal Drifting on public roads. There are a heap of cars which are done up to be extremely powerful (go onto YouTube and have a look!). As a result, there are a lot of accidents, serious injuries and even regular deaths. It’s important to ensure that what you are doing is legal, as there can be dire consequences if you get caught. Motorsports are the most fun when they are done safely! Save the drifting and other stunts for a properly set out racing course; don’t put other people’s valuable lives at risk!

Points awarded to the drivers are based on line, angle, speed and the overall show factor. It’s important to take the right line, which is announced by judges before the event. The amount of smoke, how close the car is to the wall and the crowd’s reaction all count towards the overall show rating. The angle refers to the angle of the car across a course, and the speed that is used when the stunt is being performed. Drifting is truly an amazing sport to watch, and it takes a considerable amount of skill as well.

There are many different cars that are used for Drifting, ranging from Toyota Soarers and Supras, right through to Honda’s, Nissan Skylines, Mazdas and a whole range of other modified cars. Most tend to be lighter weight and powered by smaller engines that are tweaked, rather than heavy cars with big v8s in them. The cars used for drifting have to be rear wheel drive as well, because otherwise the car is unable to slide out! Other sports which create a huge amount of adrenaline include Drag Racing and Monster Trucks.
