Jet Ski

A Jet Ski is a small powered vehicle which drives along the water and is propelled by jets. Some skis will have a few jets coming out the back of the vehicle, whilst many only have one. These machines are able to take up to 4 people, depending on the size ski that you get, and the power of the engine. They tend to rev very high, which enables fast acceleration and reduces the need for gears. They are machines to be treated with the utmost respect however, because if you come off onto hard water at 50 miles an hour you will be lucky to escape with a few broken bones. They are often very powerful.

There are a number of different types of Jet Ski, ranging from the single person sports versions right through to big ones that are used for cruising with 3 or 4 people on board. Many people use these for water skiing, because they are powerful, cheaper than boats and more fuel efficient. The only problem with doing this is that they don’t put out any wake. The reason for this is because they sit on top of water, rather than below it. Also, they are not very wide or long, meaning the water that is sprayed up at the end isn’t very high. This isn’t necessarily a problem, except when you are doing sports which require it. For example, wakeboarding behind a Jet Ski can be very boring because there is nothing to jump, and the same applies for using tubes and bananas as well as knee boards and other types of Water Skiing. In saying this, normal skiing, air chairs, disks and other pieces can still be highly enjoyed behind a ski. Also, they are great fun just to ride around, especially in waves and choppy water!

These skis are designed primarily for having fun, and as such are not always permitted in every part of the water that a boat is. They can be dangerous for both the rider and people around them, so it’s important to be sure of where you are actually allowed to ride and where you aren’t. Some areas permit these skis, as long as there is a rider behind them skiing or on a tube. Many areas completely ban the use of a Jet Ski. There have been many crashes throughout the past through years, mainly because of the excess speed that these machines can achieve. It’s important when enjoying Motorsports that it is done so safely.
