Motorbike Riding

Motorbike riding
is another sport which I thoroughly enjoy. Many people enjoy motorbike driving throughout the world, in various terrains and areas. Motorbike riding is a fun way to explore various parts of the world, and have fun whilst doing it. Motorbike riding is divided up into two types – two wheel motorbike riding, and four wheel motorbike riding (known as quad bikes). Two wheel motorbike riding is done either off road or on road, using road bikes or off road bikes.

Motorbike riding has a bad reputation in many parts of the world as being a dangerous sport, and where hoons just ride where they are not allowed. Fair enough, there are those who do the wrong thing, but motorbike riding doesn’t have to sound wrong if you do what's right. Motorbike riding doesn’t have to be risky either, assuming you take it slow, and learn how to ride safely. Motorbike riding is a great sport to do with friends, and I enjoy going out every few weekends to have a bit of fun and get a lot of exercise. You might think that riding doesn’t provide any form of exercise, but you are completely wrong! A few minutes of hard riding is enough to make me have a break for a few minutes that’s for sure!

Most of the motorbike riding that I have done is on a quad bike, and on the beach, mud and tracks. Motorbike riding that I have done has been highly enjoyable, and I have never hurt myself. I have ridden for many months, and because I learned how to drive safely, it is easy to avoid accidents. I have ridden a 700 cc raptor quad motorbike, a 250 cc Yamaha two wheeler two stroke, various three wheelers and a few other motorbikes. Motorbike activity in my experience has been an awesome experience.

Two wheel motorbike riding tends to be a lot harder to learn, because you have to learn to steer around corners and balance without falling off. Motorbike riding on these is fun, and takes a lot of skill. Motorbike riding on a two wheeler tends to be cheaper than a quad, because it literally has half of the items needed to run one. In saying this, two wheel motorbike riding can be an expensive hobby if you get serious in it.

Four wheel motorbike riding is also very enjoyable. Quads have a bad name for rolling, but again, if you know how to corner properly, you won’t roll the bike. Motorbike riding on a quad also takes a lot of skill, but it’s the easiest way to learn to handle a motorbike. Motorbikes with four wheels mean that you don’t have to learn to balance the motorbike; it will never fall over.

It is highly important to use the full protective equipment when using a motorbike. Motorbike crashes are usually made severely worse if you are not wearing good quality equipment. Some motorbike equipment are long sleeve shirts, pants, boots, gloves, motorbike jacket, helmet, back brace, shin guards and the list goes on. I often see people riding a motorbike through town in just a singlet and shorts, and thongs. If you have an accident on a motorbike without a helmet, you are in real trouble. Leather pants and a jacket will greatly reduce the amount of damage done to your body if you fall off a motorbike.

Motorbike crashes are usually survivable if you don’t hit anything. Many people have fallen off motorbikes at over 100 km an hour, and survived by just sliding along the road. It is highly important to wear your protective motorbike equipment; so don’t take it lightly.

Motorbikes can be hired from various places to use, but it’s often expensive. In saying this, it’s a good idea to hire a motorbike for a day, or go on an adventure tour to find out if you like motorbike riding. Motorbikes can be ridden in the snow, sand, mud, water and almost any terrain. Sand driving can be made easier when motorbike riding by putting ‘paddlers’ on the rear end of the motorbike. These act by scooping sand, and propelling the motorbike forwards.

I found that having done cycling I picked up driving a motorbike fairly easily. The same sort of skills are transferred across, but there are also differences (as you would imagine!). I love going away for a weekend, camping and doing the activities which are fun. Start off small when you are riding, and then work up as you are comfortable.

Earlier this year, I went up north in WA, with a few friends. We stayed at a house on a farm, near the beach. Each day we went fishing, camping and riding my friend’s quad. We also took some four wheel drives up with us, which meant it was great fun. There were a few people that packed up what they needed for a week, and drove up along the beach on a quad! These are lighter than four wheel drives, hardly ever get bogged and have the ability to carry almost anything that you need! These people had all their camping gear, rods and fishing gear needed for a week’s stay. Riding opens up many different activities.

I love motorbikes, and I would recommend it to anyone as a sport, as long as it’s done intelligently and safely. Please take a look around, find more information and try a new adventure which is great for adrenaline seekers; motorbike riding.
