SUVs
SUVs stand for Sports Utility Vehicle. SUVs are usually built on a light weight truck chassis, and are capable of driving in many off-road situations with ease. SUVs are built so that they are strong and reliable when put to the test off road. Of course, some SUVs are built stronger than others, and some go further off road than others. Many SUVs these days are becoming family transport vehicles, and are never taken off-road. They are safe to drive, becoming better with economy and very comfortable for a large family to fit in.
SUVs are made by several brands, including Nissan, Holden, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. These SUVs all differ in price, quality and capability, but they are all popular throughout the world. The main distinguishing factor between SUVs and a normal vehicle is the size. They tend to be able to seat in between 5 – 9 people, they are a lot taller and have much bigger tires. SUVs are becoming more and sportier these days however, with low profile wheels and sports kits.
SUVs also come in pickups, or utes (in Australia). These SUVs are very versatile because they can be used for work, and for fun. You can throw all your work gear out at the end of the week, fill it up with camping gear and take 4x4 for the weekend, without the need to own a second vehicle. SUV’s are modified massively throughout the world, to become mean off road machines, or simply to become a capable tourer. SUVs accessories are huge worldwide, and a lot of money can be spent if the need arises.
SUVs are a comfortable way to take the family on a holiday, whether it is off-road or not. Many people dislike SUVs however, because of their size, and it’s more difficult to drive them in the city. SUVs tires range from basic on road tires right through to mud terrain tires, which are chunky and exceed in mud and rocky conditions. SUVs rims are often made of steel, but if you want to spend bigger money on them, you can buy alloy rims.
