Swimming
Swimming is something that many people throughout the world experience at one stage to another. Whether it’s just a dip in the pool to cool off, or a swim at the beach, or surfing or snorkeling, swimming can be extremely good fun. On the other hand, it can be extremely dangerous and scary if you don’t know how to swim properly, or you are doing something wrong. Many people die each year in the water, some due to carelessness, but a majority because people simply can swim well enough. I highly encourage children to learn swimming as they are growing up, because it’s a skill which is used throughout life, especially if you live in a warmer country.
Being able to swim opens up so many new sports as well, and makes things much safer. Simply going out in a boat and not being able to swim is dangerous, because if you fall overboard there could be trouble. It’s really not that much to attend a swim lesson, and it could save your life one day. Some sports that lead on from this activity include water skiing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, Surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing, fishing, jet skiing, boating and a heap more. If you live in a warm country near the beach and don’t spend much time Swimming, then you are truly missing out.
Many people complain about sharks and other dangerous creatures in the water, but the reality is that there are not many of these, and the chances of you dying from an attack from a dangerous creature is usually less than the likelihood of you dying in a car crash. When you put things into perspective, like the millions of people that swim every day and don’t get harmed, and that sharks don’t usually attack out of aggressiveness, this type of Watersports becomes fairly safe. Of course, there are places in the world where swimming is not advised, because of extra danger, but just take this into consideration.
If there is a particular part of the beach which is segmented off for the swimmers, be sure to use it. If there are life guards on duty, be sure to swim near them. You never know when you might need their help. Most of all take it slow and learn the required skills to swim confidently and you will be able to live an adventurous life safely in the water for years to come!
